DLC is pleased to welcome Ms. Rachel Sandler to the Private Instuction Faculty as our newest Voice Instructor!
Rachel Sandler is a Baltimore native who got her start singing with the Baltimore Children’s Choir at the young age of 5. Over the years, Rachel has performed in countless DLC shows, including favorites Beauty and the Beast, You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, and Little Shop of Horrors, as well as in many local choirs such as the Peabody Children’s Chorus, Howard High School Madrigals, and Maryland All-State Choir. Rachel went on to receive her Bachelor of Music from James Madison University where she studied classical voice and piano. While at JMU, Rachel worked with the musical theatre department in multiple roles, including rehearsal pianist, conductor, music director and assistant music director for the musicals Sweet Charity, Spring Awakening, All Shook Up, Sweeney Todd, Assassins, and Cabaret. Since graduation in 2015, Rachel has been actively teaching and has music directed Avenue Q at Red Branch and Cry-Baby at Marshall High School in Fairfax. In 2016 she began studies at the Johns Hopkins Peabody Institute, where she will graduate with a masters degree in both Vocal Performance and Pedagogy in 2018.
Rachel has experience teaching classical, pop and musical theatre repertoire to students of all levels. She emphasizes a heathy, classical technique that can be applied to all genres in order to avoid vocal fatigue and other vocal health issues. In lessons, Rachel also focuses on stage presence, audition techniques, and text interpretation.
