Winter Workshop Topics in the News

December 12, 2017 by dramalearningcenter Leave a Comment

We love getting to explore topical subjects for our School’s Out Drama Workshops. These are a great opportunity for students to learn what it’s like to be at Drama Learning Center for a day– learning songs and dances, having fun with arts and crafts, and learning from our fun and engaging staff of teaching artists. This Winter’s lineup of workshop topics is definitely ripped from the headlines!

  1. Star Wars Hero Training Camp: This Winter Break, we’re exploring a different dynamic duo from the Star Wars franchise just in time for the release of The Last Jedi. Check out this definitive ranking of all 9 ‘Star Wars’ movies from USA Today. Join us from December 26-29 (either for a day or all 4) as we train heroes just like Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca and more. Check out the whole lineup here.
  2. Olaf’s Frozen Adventure: Disney/Pixar tacked on a 20-minute Olaf ‘short’ to the beginning of new animated feature Coco, and it was a controversial move. Find out what some people thought about it in ‘Coco’ Director Says ‘No Lessons Learned’ from ‘Frozen’ Short recently published on HuffPost. Did you see the short? We always have a little bit of “Frozen Fever” here at DLC, and we’re going to be celebrating all things Olaf on Monday, January 15 for our first School’s Out Workshop of 2018. Register today here.
  3. Tangled: We’ve been loving that Rapunzel has gotten more story time with the launch of Tangled: The Series. Have you been watching the new television series? Check out this recent review of “Queen for a Day,” which takes place after the events of Tangled but before the Tangled Ever After short. Our Tangled-themed School’s Out Workshop will be held Friday, February 16. We hope to see you there! Register for it here.
  4. Nicktoons: Here at DLC HQ, we practically grew up on ’90s Nicktoons, so we’re glad that they’re experiencing a renaissance of sorts. Check out this recently-published list of 43 Behind the Scenes Facts You Probably Didn’t Know About Your Favorite ’90s Nicktoons on Buzzfeed. We’re celebrating Nicktoons on Wednesday, February 19. Register for that School’s Out Drama Workshop today.

“You can’t tell from this distance but many of the kids, even though they’d never met before, were crying as they took their final bows. In 4 short weeks, you created a family.”– Andrea D.
“I can’t say enough how blown away I was by the incredible talent. It’s been a great experience for my daughter. Thank you! She will miss the cast for sure!”– Margaret O.
“Even though my daughter was one of the youngest she said she always felt included by the older kids who looked out for them. This was a hugely ambitious project and it ended up being amazing! Thank you for taking this on and making such a caring environment for all the kids! This is why I love theatre, and now my daughter does too!”– Alexia C.
“This was an awesome experience!! The older kids were great with my daughter who was one of the youngest in the cast. I truly appreciate the supportive and enriching environment that DLC created for this show.”– Beth H.
“Not only was the show impressive, the experience was wonderful. My daughter and friends sobbed after the last performance. They’ve never been as close as a cast and they are already committed to return next summer.”– Andrea D.
