It’s T-Shirt Time

Sport your DLC pride and support Beauty and the Beast at the same time by ordering a limited edition Beauty and the Beast T-shirt through our Booster campaign!

As always, Booster donates a portion of the proceeds from these t-shirts back to DLC to help off-set production costs and keep tuition affordable.

“….off-set production costs…” – what does that mean?

Drama Learning Center has produced Beauty and the Beast time and time again since TYA Professional Training Program first presented the show in December of 2008. We put a lot of resources into the custom development of enchanted costumes and specialty props that you need to bring the story to life on stage. In that time, our costumes and props have been used on DLC’s stage, in Howard County schools as part of our after school programs, as well as throughout the country for other youth productions. With the release of the new live action film, we have decided that it is time to refresh our Beauty and the Beast costumes and props to enhance the education and production experience of our students. Hiring designers and consultants and purchasing new materials costs money, and we don’t want that increased cost to trickle down to your tuition prices. Instead, we host fundraisers like this one to help pay for these new theatrical elements so that as much of your tuition dollars go to paying teaching artists and keeping those bright stage lights on as humanly possible.

So if you want to see Mrs. Potts and Lumière become “human again” on our stage, consider purchasing a Beauty and the Beast t-shirt or two. Not only does it show everyone how proud you are to be a bright, shining star at Drama Learning Center– it also helps enable us to keep our kids telling fresh, new stories on DLC’s stage without raising the price of tuition.

Some new features this time around for DLC spirit t-shirts include:

  • Juniors Sizing*
  • Softer material

*We recommend sizing up as the style tends to run small.

Thank you in advance for helping support the arts in Howard County! Get your t-shirt soon… all orders must be in by April 18th for shirts to print and arrive in time for Beauty and the Beast to open at DLC!

5 Ways We’re Celebrating Beauty and the Beast Students

We are so excited to take a trip back to provincial France this Spring with our class productions of Beauty and the Beast! The classic tale has been a perennial favorite on DLC’s stage for years. Take a look at just a handful of ways we’re celebrating the return of Beauty and the Beast with our students and their families this Spring.

  1. Private Screening: We’ve rented out an entire movie theater to be among the first to see the new live action film adaptation of Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson (Harry Potter franchise) and Dan Stevens (of Downton Abbey fame). DLC students will be able to engage in a choreography mini-masterclass prior to the screening, and everyone will go home with a special DLC goodie bag! Would you like to join us? Fill out the form below for more details.
  2. Exclusive Access to NYC Trip: For years, we have travelled to the Big Apple every year to see a new Broadway musical. This year, we were fortunate enough to secure seats to the new stage adaptation of animated classic Anastasia. Join us on the bus as we “journey to the past!” Register for a Spring class if you’re not already to get access to the secret link to purchase your New York City trip tickets!
  3. Beauty and the Beast Fundraiser: Jamberry wraps have taken the DLC teaching staff by storm. You can guarantee to see many teachers and staff members sporting cute nails around the theatre thanks to these stylish accessories. Jamberry has come out with an officially-licensed line of Beauty and the Beast-themed nail wraps just in time for our Spring shows. Sport your DLC pride and Beauty and the Beast spirit by purchasing some Beauty and the Beast nail wraps. If you want to shop for a cause, fill out the form below to get the link for the fundraising page. Your purchase will help off-set production costs including an overhaul of our props and costumes for this production.
  4. Refreshed Costumes and Props: Beauty and the Beast has been a well-loved show, which is why we’ve brought it back again just in time for our students to realize these characters on stage. Our production staff is hard at work to breathe new life and resources into the technical components for this production to provide our students with an enhanced theatrical experience.
  5. Exciting Souvenir Merchandise: In addition to our production t-shirts, which have become fun collector’s items, students and audience members will have the opportunity to purchase Beauty and the Beast-themed merchandise like light-up roses.

We are looking forward to a great Spring with our students! At the time of this post, Friday Elementary Musical Theatre and Tuesday Elementary/Middle Musical Theatre are full and on waitlist. Register for one of our remaining Spring classes, or call us at (410) 849-6335 to be added to the waitlist. Do you have a question or want more information on anything that you’ve read above? Filll out the form below and we’ll get back to you!

New Site and Ticketing System

We’re excited to launch our new website and ticketing and registration system today. Transitioning to a new system and website over the past year has come with a lot– both positive and challenging. At the heart of any administrative changes that we make here at Drama Learning Center, however, is our desire to more efficiently and effectively serve the families who spend their time and talents here so that more of our resources can go towards providing quality arts education to our students. We are pleased to begin a new partnership with Arts People: a ticketing and registration system for performing arts organizations. Our new partnership with AP brings to a close our relationship with our previous ticketing vendor. While there will be a new look to ticketing and registration (including a new layer of security for student registration), a lot will stay the same. We are confident that the things that are changing will help us to better serve you while also improving your patron experience. Over the next several weeks, we will release some blog tutorials to help you get the most out of this new system. In the meantime, if you have any questions regarding ticketing or registration, please do not hesitate to call us at 410-997-9352 for troubleshooting. And, of course, mark your calendars for January 1st when we open registration for Spring and Summer 2016. It’s an exciting time at Drama Learning Center, and we’re thrilled that you’re here to share it with us!
