Private Lessons This Summer

This point in the summer is the perfect time to refine your skills with one-on-one study. In addition to quality, production-based theatre education through classes and camps, DLC also offers private lessons year-round in the following areas:

  • Voice (Musical Theatre & Classical)
  • Acting/Monologue Coaching
  • Audition Preparation
  • Beginner Piano

Whether you’re looking to learn a new song or monologue, take the laid-back time of the summer to improve your technique, work on a new skill, or master your material for that next audition— we have highly qualified and engaging instructors waiting to help you reach your goals. All of our lessons are geared toward the individual student, so tell us your goals, and we’ll help you reach them!

Mondays, you can work with Ms. Janine Sunday on musical theatre repertoire taught with classical technique while perfecting your approach to character.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, you can work with Mr. Dustin Merrell on putting your song and monologue package together under the care of a theatrical music director in demand for his accompaniment skills throughout the region.

Wednesdays and Fridays, you can work with Ms. Christine Goddard on voice or piano in a nurturing environment with lots of affirmation– perfect for beginners!

How would you spend 30 minutes with one of our private instructors? Let us know in the comments!

If you have any other questions or want to start the process, please send us a message using the form below. We look forward to helping you along on your journey towards being a stronger and more confident performer!

13: TYA’s First Summer Intensive

Drama Learning Center’s professional training company for emerging young artists will present Jason Robert Brown’s 13 this month (July 27-29). A hilarious coming-of-age musical about discovering that “cool” is sometimes where we least expect it, 13 follows Evan Goldman as he moves from New York City to a small Indiana town. Grappling with his parents’ divorce, and preparing for his Bar Mitzvah, Evan navigates the complicated social circles of a new school, as well as the ins and outs of learning how to be a successful young adult. With music by Tony Award-winning Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Bridges of Madison County, Songs for a New World), 13 is a musical about fitting in – and standing out!

13 marks the fourth time that TYA Professional Training Program has produced a title by Jason Robert Brown, having previously mounted the area premiere of 13 (2010), Songs For a New World (2013), and Parade (2016). Alums of TYA also shared the stage with the composer when he visited the space for a one-night-only performance in 2014.

Drama Learning Center’s Professional Training Company, TYA (Teaching Young Artists), presents this production of 13 from July 27-29 as the culmination of its first ever summer intensive. The three-week program available by audition only includes master classes with area casting directors and professional artists in addition to rehearsals and skill-building activities. The TYA program allows students to work in a professional theatre environment as they learn about all aspects of theatrical work. TYA has a strong history of bringing cutting-edge titles to local audiences. The group has previously mounted area premieres of Parade, First Date, Carrie the Musical, GHOST the Musical, 13 the Musical, Legally Blonde, and High School Musical. This production continues TYA’s long-standing tradition of producing professional contemporary musical theatre.

13 is presented by permission through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

Brand New You – Annual TYA Cabaret

Every year, Drama Learning Center’s Professional Training Program (TYA) hosts a Fundraising Cabaret and Senior Showcase to bid farewell to graduating members of the company and celebrate the past season. Alums of the program also come back to perform and update the DLC family on what they have been up to for the past year. A silent auction is also held in conjunction with the cabaret to raise money that offsets production costs for the upcoming season in order to keep tuition affordable. This year’s cabaret will be held on Saturday, July 16. Doors open at 7:30, and the performance begins at 8.
