Going Inside James and the Giant Peach at DLC

The cat’s out of the bag! This Winter, students will perform in their own productions of Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach, Jr. on DLC’s stage. Now that you know what we’re doing, learn a little more about it before you register for a Winter class at DLC.

What’s It About?

When young orphan James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that results in a tremendous peach and launches a journey of enormous proportions. Suddenly James finds himself in the center of the gigantic peach, among human-sized insects with equally oversized personalities. Based on the fantastical tale by Roald Dahl (author of other popular children’s books like Charlie and the Chocolate FactoryThe BFGand Matilda) with music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (the duo behind Broadway smash hit Dear Evan Hansen), James and the Giant Peach promises to be a magical adventure.

How will we tell this fantastical tale?

The visual elements of this production will nod towards the work of Henry Selick (director of the film adaptations of James and the Giant Peach and Coraline) but we will also derive inspiration from the style of Tim Burton.
